Mike, through his company Lion Dog African Safaris arranged an adventure trip for myself and two friends to Tanzania in February of 2011.

The adventure included a 6 day trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai route (fortunately the 3 of us were successful in reaching Uhuru Peak – highest point in Africa). The trek was a wonderful enlightening experience. The guiding company selected by Mike was very competent, safety orientated, and always concerned with the health and well being of the hikers. The porters and guides were all genuinely friendly great people. None of the 3 of us had any adverse affects from the food served on the mountain.

We thought it would be difficult for our 6 day safari to rival the Kilimanjaro trek, but it was truly an amazing experience and certainly did rival the trek. Our guide (and driver) was very friendly, personable and had excellent knowledge of all the wildlife we had the pleasure to view (often at very close range). We were fortunate to see lions, cheetah, leopard, water buffalo, rhinoceros, hippos, hyenas, jackals, warthogs, baboons, colobus & verbet monkeys, ostriches, hundreds of giraffes, gazelles, antelope & elephants, and literally thousands of zebras and wildebeests. We managed to intercept a zebra and wildebeest migration consisting of literally thousands of animals. The wilderness camps and lodges arranged by Mike were supposed to be middle of the road, but in our opinion the accommodation and food thoughout the safari far exceeded our expectations (with several having nice pools). Our safari included Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyari, Norongoro Crater and the Serengeti.

Not once during our two week adventure did we feel threatened or in danger in any way. The scheduling from the time we arrived at the Kilimanjaro Airport until we were taken back to the airport two weeks later was perfect (always some one to pick us up within minutes of the scheduled time). This was truly a trip of a lifetime.

We were not sure how Mike was able to schedule this adventure trip so perfectly from another continent. I would not hesitate to recommend Lion Dog African Safari for any adventure holiday in Africa.
